DuPont State Recreational Forest, located 40 miles south of Asheville, NC, is well known by nature lovers. Its 10,000 acres of lush, natural beauty, picturesque waterfalls, and 86 miles of hiking trails make it a popular attraction. Even Hollywood loves it: scenes from 1992’s “The Last of the Mohicans” and “The Hunger Games” were shot here.

It sometimes seems like there is an endless supply of waterfalls to visit in the Asheville area. Some are near and some are far, some are big and some are small. The one thing they have in common is their beauty to the human eye.

Why we love falling water is anyone’s guess but waterfalls tend to entrance and attract us all. This can be particularly true during the colder months when the water freezes, leaving strange and incredible sculptures of ice.
