Welcome Spring With The Biltmore Blooms Festival of Flowers!

03/06/2017 By North Lodge on Oakland Bed & Breakfast

Biltmore Blooms Festival of Flowers 2017

What better way to celebrate spring than with a visit to Asheville for the 2017 Biltmore Blooms Festival of Flowers?

The 32nd annual Biltmore Blooms Festival of Flowers begins March 18th, 2017 and runs through May 25th. The festival follows and celebrates the blossoming schedule of the estate’s immense and wonderful gardens.

Visitors come to bathe in the gardens as they come to life with hundreds of thousands of bright and beautiful flowers. Biltmore’s gardens produce upwards of 100,000 tulips each spring, not to mention the orchids, daffodils, hyacinths, azaleas, roses and so much more!

Many of the flowers get their start in the Biltmore’s conservatory and winter garden. The flood of color typically begins in late March with the orchids. The early weeks of April then see daffodils and forsythia, followed by tulips a week or so after. By May, the Biltmore Estate is absolutely awash in bright flowers. The slow procession of color is a truly stunning sight.

It is not uncommon for visitors to plan their visit to coincide with the opening of the blossoms they hold most dear. To that end, the Biltmore website provides a bloom schedule guide as well as a bloom report to help you make your plans.

The most popular time to visit seems to be late April, when the explosion of color takes serious root. At this time, wandering the estate’s extensive walking trails can be an almost surreal experience. The combination of native and exotic flowers is truly an amazing spectacle to behold.

The Festival of Flowers continues inside the main house of the Biltmore Estate, as well. The Châteauesque-style mansion is accented throughout with tasteful arrangements of tropical plants and flowers.

Biltmore Blooms Festival of Flowers celebrates both spring and architect Frederick Law Olmsted, who masterminded the estate’s horticultural plans. Without his incredible attention to detail and far-sighted planning, the estate’s gardens would not be the magnificent example of horticulture that they are today.
