Scheduled for July 7th through the 10th, 2016, the 61st annual return of The Grandfather Games promises three days of tartan plaids, food, music, and athletic prowess!

The annual Grandfather Mountain Highland Games and Gathering of Scottish Clans has been held on Grandfather Mountain, near Linville, NC, since 1956. Modeled after the several hundred year old tradition of the Braemar Games in Scotland, the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games have been called “the American Braemar.”

2016 Montford Music and Arts Festival

The Montford Music and Arts Festival, held the third Saturday of every May, is a free, annual, neighborhood block party held in the historic Montford neighborhood, near downtown Asheville, featuring music, art and food.

Asheville’s largest, longest running, single day neighborhood street festival, the Montford Music and Arts Festival has been a local favorite for 13 years. The festival’s reputation and scope have grown over the years and it now draws crowds of 7,000 people or more, from both inside and outside Asheville – and who can wonder why?

Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest 2016The second annual Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest, scheduled for April 24th, 2016, promises tastings, demonstrations, workshops, and more – and all to benefit the WNC Cheese Trail!

2015 saw the very first, annual Carolina Mountain Cheese Festival and it was such a success that this year was a shoe-in with as many of the same events and attractions as last year and then some!

NC Brewgrass Festival 2015Western NC’s original craft beer festival is back for its 19th year – Brewgrass Festival 2015 is scheduled for Saturday, September 19th, will you be there?

Asheville’s Brewgrass Festival was started way back in 1996 when we were all still calling craft beer and craft brewers “microbrew” and “microbrewers.” Now the craze for fresh, innovative, flavorful beer has swept nearly every corner of the US and abroad, making the movement seem more macro than micro and the initiation of the now 19 year-old Brewgrass Festival an act of wisdom bordering on prescience.

Then again, Asheville’s craft beer scene is so fecund – the city is home to over 100 breweries and brewpubs and was named “Beer City USA” four years in a row – it’s no wonder that the NC Brewgrass Festival had such an early start here.

Shindig On the Green 2015Asheville’s Shindig On The Green, a much-loved,  summertime tradition, returns for its 49th annual year with music and dance in the Southern Appalchia style – most Saturday nights from June 27th to September 5th in the heart of downtown Asheville at Pack Square Park’s Roger McGuire Green.

Asheville’s Shindig On The Green has been going strong for 49 years, now. An offshoot of the venerable Mountain Dance and Folk Festival – the oldest, continuously running folk festival in the nation at 88 years and counting in 2015 – Shindig On The Green is a celebration and sharing of Southern Appalachian Mountains music, dance and storytelling tradition.

Both a stage show and and collection of informal jam sessions around the park, Shindig On The Green regularly attracts thousands every Saturday night throughout the summer. Popular with both locals and visitors to the region, performers and fans come from all over the nation to play music, dance, spin yarns, or just take it all in.
