2017 Asheville Holiday Events
Since we’re already here, we may as well start with downtown. Asheville always gets decked out with lots of decorations, sales, carolers, and more for the holidays. The Grove Arcade Winter Wonderland opens Nov 17th and our annual Holiday Parade is November 18th. While not especially holiday related, you also won’t want to miss the Taste of Asheville if you’re in the Asheville area on November 16th.
Christmas at the Biltmore and Biltmore Village – Nov 3 through Jan 7
The Biltmore House starts our beautiful – but when it’s decorated for the holidays? WOW! Biltmore Village also gets gussied up for the holidays. The Biltmore House is always a magical, fun experience this time of year.
Ride the Polar Express Train – Nov 10 through Dec 31
The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad’s annual holiday event, the Polar Express Train, offers a festive a 1.25 round-trip excursion that is most definitely not just for kids! More than 70,000 passengers enjoyed the special trip last year!
Aluminum Christmas Tree Museum – Nov 11 through Dec 23
The third annual exhibition of the Aluminum Tree & Aesthetically Challenged Seasonal Ornament Museum and Research Center is back! Whether you end up reminiscing or just laughing, one thing is for sure: you’ll be entertained! This fun, quirky – you might even say “tacky” – holiday attraction is free to visit and most definitely worth your time.
Smith-McDowell House Victorian Christmas – Nov 15 through Jan 6
See Asheville’s oldest surviving structure and history museum decorated for Christmas! The Smith-McDowell House Victorian Christmas includes historic house tours, caroling, Christmas stories, live music, and more for a glimpse at Christmas past – sans ghosts!

Winter Lights at the NC Arboretum – Nov 17 through Dec 31
The North Carolina Arboretum’s annual Winter Lights is must-see event composed of nearly 500,000 lights! The glowing winter wonderland is designed around the arboretum’s vegetation and open nightly from 6pm to 10pm.
Lake Julian Festival of Lights – Dec 1 to 23
Another big holiday-lights favorite is the Lake Julian Festival of Lights. Drive-through this annual, half-mile display of 50 animated and stationary light displays. The attraction kicks off with the “walk through night” – the only time you can walk through – on December 1st.
