So Many Ways To Celebrate The Holidays In Asheville, NC

November 3rd, 2017 by Corey A. Edwards

Holidays In AshevilleThere’s always something fun and fascinating going on in and around Asheville, NC. That statement becomes even truer as the end-of-the-year-holidays approach. If you’re going to spend your holidays in Asheville, let us help you to discover the many ways we celebrate them here!

People come from far and wide all year long to bask in the beauty of our North Carolina paradise. They come for the festivals, the music, the great food and drink, scenery, and our warm and lively community.

Unlike so many other destinations, Asheville doesn’t roll up the fun and stick it in a closet once “the season” passes. In Asheville, we celebrate all the seasons, all year long! Just now it’s the end-of-the-year holiday season and, as usual, there are plenty of great events planned. Come see how we celebrate the holidays in Asheville.

2017 Asheville Holiday Events

Downtown Asheville
Since we’re already here, we may as well start with downtown. Asheville always gets decked out with lots of decorations, sales, carolers, and more for the holidays. The Grove Arcade Winter Wonderland opens Nov 17th and our annual Holiday Parade is November 18th. While not especially holiday related, you also won’t want to miss the Taste of Asheville if you’re in the Asheville area on November 16th.

Christmas at the Biltmore and Biltmore Village – Nov 3 through Jan 7
The Biltmore House starts our beautiful – but when it’s decorated for the holidays? WOW! Biltmore Village also gets gussied up for the holidays. The Biltmore House is always a magical, fun experience this time of year.

Ride the Polar Express Train – Nov 10 through Dec 31
The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad’s annual holiday event, the Polar Express Train, offers a festive a 1.25 round-trip excursion that is most definitely not just for kids! More than 70,000 passengers enjoyed the special trip last year!

Aluminum Christmas Tree Museum – Nov 11 through Dec 23
The third annual exhibition of the Aluminum Tree & Aesthetically Challenged Seasonal Ornament Museum and Research Center is back! Whether you end up reminiscing or just laughing, one thing is for sure: you’ll be entertained! This fun, quirky – you might even say “tacky” – holiday attraction is free to visit and most definitely worth your time.

Smith-McDowell House Victorian Christmas – Nov 15 through Jan 6
See Asheville’s oldest surviving structure and history museum decorated for Christmas! The Smith-McDowell House Victorian Christmas includes historic house tours, caroling, Christmas stories, live music, and more for a glimpse at Christmas past – sans ghosts!

If you’re one of the many who enjoys holiday light displays, have we got two for you to check out!

Winter Lights at the NC Arboretum – Nov 17 through Dec 31
The North Carolina Arboretum’s annual Winter Lights is must-see event composed of nearly 500,000 lights! The glowing winter wonderland is designed around the arboretum’s vegetation and open nightly from 6pm to 10pm.

Lake Julian Festival of Lights – Dec 1 to 23
Another big holiday-lights favorite is the Lake Julian Festival of Lights. Drive-through this annual, half-mile display of 50 animated and stationary light displays. The attraction kicks off with the “walk through night” – the only time you can walk through – on December 1st.
