2015 saw the very first, annual Carolina Mountain Cheese Festival and it was such a success that this year was a shoe-in with as many of the same events and attractions as last year and then some!
Held at Highland Brewery in Asheville again this year, you can look forward to beer and cheese tastings, among other yummy distractions. While not every detail has been nailed down just yet, many of the main events planned for the 2016 Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest have been scheduled. Below is a list of the other events presently planned:

12:30pm – Raising Healthy Goats Workshop
Learn about raising healthy dairy goats from local expert, Liza Plaster of Ripshin Goat Dairy in Lenoir, NC.
12:30pm – Mountain Cheese & Highland Beer Tasting
Learn about pairing cheese and beer from brewmasters and cheesemakers mongers – this pairing will be repeated three times.
12:30 to 1pm – Cheese & Wine Tasting
Learn about pairing cheese and wine from the experts via four guided pairings.
1:30pm – Mountain Cheese & Highland Beer Tasting
2pm – Charcuterie 101 Workshop
Discover the process, history, and science of cured meats and learn creative ways to pair charcuterie and cheeses.
3pm – Ethical Eating Workshop
Connections between our environment, economy, culture, and science are explored to leave you with a new way of thinking about food’s day-to-day dietary considerations from a global perspective.
3pm – Mountain Cheese & Highland Beer Tasting
TBD – Mozzarella Stretching
Learn how to make America’s Favorite cheese at home with local cheesemaker Lindsey Menendez of Copper Cauldron Cheese Company.
There are also numerous, ongoing events that run throughout 2016 Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest, including an opportunity to sample the offerings of many of the region’s best artisan food producers at The Gathering of Cheesemakers. Not just cheese but also meats, bread, mustards, jams, gelato, goat milk, and so much more.
You’ll also be able to learn how cheese was made before the days of electricity and refrigeration at the History of Cheese Display; win a dessert at the Cheese Trail Dessert Walk, a twist on the traditional cakewalk; learn how to milk a goat, make butter, soap, and more.
All the 2016 Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest Workshops are FREE but seating is limited, so it is wise to reserve your space if you’re serious about attending.
