Celebrate Spring with Biltmore Blooms 2016

February 12th, 2016 by Corey A. Edwards

Biltmore Blooms 2016 Festival of FlowersFor flower fans, there’s no better way to welcome spring than with the annual Asheville Festival of Flowers that is Biltmore Blooms, March 19th through May 26th, 2016.

The Biltmore Estate is always worth a visit for those with an eye for beauty and grandeur – but you haven’t seen the pinnacle of the Biltmore Estate’s beauty until you’ve seen Biltmore Blooms Festival of Flowers in the spring.

Each year, the Biltmore Estate welcomes the first day of spring with wave after wave, week after week, of bright and beautiful blossoms: Biltmore Blooms! Orchids, tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, forsythia, azaleas, roses, and more – a panoply of living color to catch eye, fill the lungs, and delight the senses.

The two-plus month long Biltmore Blooms – Festival of Flowers begins in early March, with the more than a thousand orchids that have been nurtured to splendor brought out of their protective shelter into the spring sunshine. These are followed in early April by 15,000 daffodils and forsythia, then 75,000 tulips thereafter. As Biltmore Blooms mimics spring’s steady progression of unfolding colors, many plan their visits around the scheduled appearance of their favorite flowers.

More than just acre after acre of incredible, eye-popping flower displays – as if that isn’t enough! – this year, Biltmore Blooms also includes a separate, special exhibit entitled “Fashionable Romance: Wedding Gowns in Film.”

Fashionable Romance: Wedding Gowns in Film – February 12th through July 4th, 2016 – is an exhibition inside the Biltmore House of more than 40 award-winning wedding costumes from 19 classic films, that help to illustrate the changing wedding fashions from the 1700’s through the 1940’s. Mementos from the Vanderbilt and Cecil family weddings are also incorporated, along with special floral displays.
