Western North Carolina’s Catawba Valley is home to some of America’s best vineyards and wineries, producing a broad range of reds, whites, and blended varieties in the best European and American traditions. Visiting a winery is a great way to educate yourself as well as entertain – and don’t forget the samples!
Winemakers are often fascinating people and, even when they aren’t, what they do is. Winemaking philosophies vary from vintner to vintner just as soil and weather do from region to region. Come discover how these elements play a role in the making of wines on a Catawba Valley Wine Trail tour.
The Catawba Valley Wine Trail consists of four different and distinctive, celebrated North Carolina wineries. On the tour you will have the chance to sample up to 20 different wines as well as meet and learn the personal winemaking philosophies of the men and women behind the wines. Lunch will provided and many of the wineries will offer other treats to pair with their wines, such as gourmet cheeses from some of Western North Carolina’s best creameries!
On the Catawba Valley Wine Trail tour, you’ll visit:
Belle Nicho Winery
Belle Nicho Winery has been adding its own Southern Style to their Catawba Valley wines since 2012. Belle Nicho produces wines using native, French-American hybrid and Vinifera grapes as well as fruit, with vines of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cynthiana, Isabella, and Seyval Blanc in their vineyard.
Lake James Cellars
Lake James Cellars is a family owned and run winery, producing a variety of handcrafted wines – reds, whites, and fruit wines – created from both local and imported fruits.
Silver Fork Winery
Silver Fork Winery’s distinctive, Bordeaux-style wines are hand-crafted using grapes grown in the rich soil of the Western North Carolina mountains – soil that has been supporting Vinifera vines, Old world, European style grapes like Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, for nearly 20 years.
South Creek Vineyards
South Creek Vineyards award winning, Bordeaux-style wines are complimented by the winery’s charming, 100+ year-old, Italian Renaissance Farmhouse on grounds with a panoramic view of Catawba Valley, complete with grazing horses.
Best of all, since you’re on a Catawba Valley Wine Trail tour, you can sample all the wine you wish – because you’re leaving the driving to someone else!
