Asheville’s Shindig On The Green 2015

June 12th, 2015 by Corey A. Edwards

Shindig On the Green 2015Asheville’s Shindig On The Green, a much-loved,  summertime tradition, returns for its 49th annual year with music and dance in the Southern Appalchia style – most Saturday nights from June 27th to September 5th in the heart of downtown Asheville at Pack Square Park’s Roger McGuire Green.

Asheville’s Shindig On The Green has been going strong for 49 years, now. An offshoot of the venerable Mountain Dance and Folk Festival – the oldest, continuously running folk festival in the nation at 88 years and counting in 2015 – Shindig On The Green is a celebration and sharing of Southern Appalachian Mountains music, dance and storytelling tradition.

Both a stage show and and collection of informal jam sessions around the park, Shindig On The Green regularly attracts thousands every Saturday night throughout the summer. Popular with both locals and visitors to the region, performers and fans come from all over the nation to play music, dance, spin yarns, or just take it all in.

The Folk Heritage Committee produces Shindig on the Green and its sister event, the Mountain Dance & Folk Festival. Their mission is to preserve the tradition of music, dance and storytelling in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Shindig on the Green usually attracts between 3000 and 5000 participants each Saturday – for free – throughout the summer.
