The 2014 Asheville Mountain Sports Festival is a weekend music and sports extravaganza that celebrates athletics, outdoors, and community that you will not want to miss!
Back for its fourteenth year and bigger than ever, the Asheville Mountain Sports Festival has a lineup of athletic events and entertainments designed to challenge and delight both spectator and contestant, pro or amateur.
Competitions, exhibitions, and music occur throughout the 3 days of the festival. The Rock-2-Rock Trail Run in Black Mountain and the Disc Golf Challenge at Festival Village will kick things off on Friday, followed by the Asheville Cyclocross.
Saturday’s full schedule includes Girls on the Run Rise & Shine 5k, the Mountain Disc Golf Experience, the French Broad Challenge Triathlon, a Dodgeball Tournament and Complimentary Yoga with OM Asheville.
Sunday events feature a continuation of the Mountain Disc Golf Experience, plus the Sand Volleyball Tournament, and an Ultimate Frisbee Clinic.
A new feature this year is the Outdoor Gear Builders Village, with some of the area’s best outdoor gear manufacturers demonstrating and displaying all the latest in equipment and techniques.
Kids are welcome, too, with the Kids Village open on Saturday and Sunday. Games and activities like rock climbing, bad mitten, hula hoops, disc golf, cornhole, frisbee, gymnastics, and t-ball are just some of the fun. Plus shade tents and snacks are on hand so you can take a break, if need be.
This year’s Asheville Mountain Sports Festival is once again hosting a broad mix of live local and national acts. Headlining this year is Robert Walter’s 20th Congress. Other acts include:
Honey Island Swamp Band
Get Right Band
Pierce Edens & The Dirty Work
fRITZ bEER and the Crooked Beat
The 3 day, Asheville Mountain Sports Festival grows in popularity and attendance every year due to the efforts of the festival’s volunteers and organizers, the musicians, exhibitors, the lush terrain of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and, of course, the unique and welcoming culture of Asheville, NC. This year’s festival is expected to bring over 15,000 visitors.
