Hard as it is to believe, 2013 is almost over. I know: shocking. Still, that also means that it’s time to celebrate and, if you’re celebrating an Asheville New Year’s Eve, you could do a lot worse than the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad New Year’s Eve Celebration!
The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad is a year-round tourist excursion train that travels through quaint mountain towns and past sparkling rivers that flow along the southwestern side of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. On New Year’s Eve the train transforms into a rolling party with live music, dancing, dining, and general celebration!
Start off the evening with a reception in the Smoky Mountain Trains Museum. Hors d’oeuvres will include tiger shrimp and cocktail sauce, button mushrooms stuffed with shrimp and crab parmesan, steak and roasted pepper skewers, and chocolate covered fruit, all accompanied by a special selection of beer, wine, and mixed drinks.
Once on board, a three-course, buffet style dinner will be served in the vintage dining car. Enjoy fresh baby greens in a raspberry vinaigrette, warm yeast rolls as an appetizer, then choose from a selection of entrées: spinach stuffed chicken with a creamy parmesan sauce, seasoned pork loin with a raspberry glaze, or a portobello mushroom tower stuffed with smoked peppers, spinach and parmesan cheese. The third course is comprised of white chocolate cheesecake covered with fresh berries! Wow!
This year’s live entertainment is the popular duo, Alias Smith & Jones. An Atlanta-based, acoustic guitar/vocal duo, Alias Smith & Jones vast repertoire ranges from toe-tapping classics to the totally unexpected – regardless of what they pull out of their musical hat, you’re guaranteed to dance the night away.
The evening will some to a head at midnight with a countdown including noise makers and a champagne toast to 2014!
